Journaling Your Way To Answered Prayer by K. Denise Holmberg

A Facebook friend recently shared how he met film director Dallas Jenkins in a parking lot in 2008
and told him he wanted to be in one of his films one day. Then he wrote in his prayer journal "I want to work with Dallas Jenkins and become friends. I like him, God. May I, please?"

My friend admits that sounds like a nerdy thing to do … BUT … a few months ago, seven years after he whispered his prayer and wrote it down, he was cast in “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone” ... directed by Dallas Jenkins.

Reading his story of answered prayer reminded me of the prayer journals I use to be faithful about keeping.  I went digging around in them (some are written with pen and paper - some are Word docs) and this is one (unedited) from five years ago:

Gullible women i.e.: weak in virtue and the knowledge of the truth, and weighed down with emotional and spiritual guilt over their sins - become easy prey for deceitful and false teachers.
(From MacArthur’s study Bible NKJV 2 Timothy 3:1-5)
This has been my problem - I have been in the midst of a demonic assault for years now. I am weighed down with guilt and it is taking me out. Now the problem has been identified and the desire of my heart is for healing to begin and for a DOUBLE PORTION OF ANOINTING TO BE BESTOWED ON ME!
In the last days - Timothy describes people this way:
Lovers of themselves
Lovers of money
Boasters
Proud
Blasphemers
Disobedient to parents
Unthankful
Unholy
Unloving
Unforgiving
Slanderers
Without self-control
Headstrong
Haughty
Lovers of pleasure
I am guilty of all. Lord Jesus, brother and friend, send angels to help me fight these demons.
I act out of what I FEEL and not out of what I KNOW. I must learn to behave out of what I know is truth and not what I feel at the moment.
“Satan’s chief objective is to make the clean feel unclean. He can’t make us do anything, but he can get us to by corrupting thoughts and manipulating feelings. If we have rec’d Christ - Satan is forced to work from the outside rather than inside. He manipulates outside influences to affect the inside decision makers of the heart and mind.” Beth Moore
Forgiveness is instant - healing can take longer.
Lord Jesus - rescue me!
1 Peter 5:8 - Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

I wrote those words coming out of an extremely serious mental and physical health episode that nearly cost me my life.

It was also at the beginning of my writing journey that I know is my God given purpose.

Sometimes I write in a “zone” and read it back later and think, “Whoa, that wasn’t me … that was the Holy Spirit.” His anointing, a gift given because I asked.

I’m especially thankful for healing. I know God gave me life again. I also know how alert I have to be to keep from being devoured by the enemy (still a daily struggle!).

Answers to prayers that may have been forgotten if I had not written them down years ago.

If you journal, I encourage you to read your old ones, then sit and savor the black and white proof of God working in your life. If you don’t journal, I urge you to consider it … it is an amazing way to be reminded of the work of HIS hand in your own life.

I love how God is interested in every aspect of our lives … from a light “let me be his friend” to a serious “heal me from demonic assault” … our Heavenly Father cares and answers.

Do you journal?

Blessings!
Denise
