Holding a Hymnal by K. Denise Holmberg

Standing beside my husband at The Cliff’s Glassy Mountain Chapel Sunday morning, I did something I had not done in a very long time. I held a hymnal in my hands. Chapel at Cliff's Glassy Mountain It's the "old fashioned" or "traditional" way of singing praise in church. We even shared the song book. He took one side. I gripped the other. It was great. As we sang “ It Is Well With My Soul ” (the Baptist way -- all four verses), I thought about other wonderful hymns that have gone by and by. Like The Sweet By and By : There’s a land that is fairer than day, And by faith we can see it afar; For the Father waits over the way To prepare us a dwelling place there. Refrain: In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore; In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore. (Sanford Bennett) I LOVE contemporary praise songs. Having the words on the screen is convient.  But the nostalgia of opening a
